Paul Higgins, 46 years old.
I started martial arts training with Craig in September 2005. Even though I had always wanted to take up some form of martial arts I never seemed to be able to find the time and courage to take that first step and actually join a club. My main reasons for joining were initially to improve my overall level of fitness and learn self defence in a controlled and safe environment. The first class showed how little flexibility I had and how much room there was for improvement.
It took weeks before I started to see any advance in flexibility but soon realised that all the stretching from head to toe was absolutely necessary so that any kicking or punching could be carried out safely and without personal injury. So for anyone starting they must remember that the warm up and stretch at the beginning of each class is vitally important and not just a nuisance stopping you from practising kicks and punches.
Since moving venue to St Kevins Hall I have started sparring classes which are very demanding but also extremely enjoyable because they give you the chance of putting into practice the kicking and punching techniques learned against a real opponent. The important thing is that this is all very controlled and safe for all the participants.
I must say that I would encourage anyone no matter how young or old to join this club and have a fun and enjoyable time learning a martial art to defend yourself and keep fit at the same time. Everyone receives a warm welcome in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and instruction from three top class instructors.
